Best Performing Governors In Nigeria 2024: It has been more than a year since the last gubernatorial election took place in Nigeria, that is 18th of March 2023.

The 2023 gubernatorial election brought in about 31 state governors in different regions of the country.

However, it has been almost a year since they were sworn into office as governors.

Upon assuming office almost a year ago, some of these governors have little or nothing to show as successful projects they have executed rather they have focused on increasing the standard of their living and that of their families and friends neglecting the needs of the people at large.

Painfully, after their tenure when asked the reason for their poor performance, they attribute it to inheriting an already bad state condition from their predecessors.

Thankfully, some other current governors are changing that narrative and have taken up their responsibilities and have executed projects that are very visible to even non-indigenes of the state.

Some have gone further to improve the economy of their states, attract foreign investors, and also ensure the safety of lives and properties in their various states.

Recall, that the governors serve as the chief executive officer of a state and has the following key duties and responsibilities to the people he is governing;

a). Formulation and implementation of policies in the state

b). Appointment of commissioners, heads of government agencies, and other key state government officials

c). Partnering with security agencies to ensure peace, security, and protection of lives and properties within the state.

d). Presentation of yearly budget to the state house of assembly.

The 59-year-old politician resumed office as the governor of Abia state on 29th of May, 2023 after winning the state gubernatorial election in March 2023.

H.E Governor Alex Otti belongs to the Labour Party (LP) and upon resuming office has brought a lot of smiles to the faces of the people of Abia state.

Aside from that, some external spectators have given nothing but positive compliments to the governor since he assumed office.

In one of his posts on Twitter (now X), he emphasized that Agriculture is key to his government and as such intends to invest in that sector of the economy to take advantage of Niger State Large Landmass.

As a result of the visible effort to improve the agricultural sector of the state, He has been nicknamed the “Farmer Governor”.

5. Prof Babagana Umara Zulum (Governor of Borno State)

Prof Babagana Umara Zulum is a well-known professor and political figure in Nigeria and also the serving governor of Borno State under the All-Progressive Congress (APC) political party.

According to Wikipedia, Prof Babagana Zulum assumed office in 2019 and completed and commissioned 77 projects in different sectors including health, education, infrastructure, and so on.

6. Godwin Obaseki (Governor of Edo State)

H.E. Godwin Obaseki has been the governor of Edo state since the 2016 gubernatorial election under the People Democratic Party (PDP).
